Knee Pain Dorking

Discover what causes knee pain and how we treat it in our Dorking clinic

Osteopathic Treatment for Knee Pain

Knee pain can be extremely frustrating, limiting our ability to walkexercise, play sports or enjoy our hobbies

Causes of Knee Pain

Hip or the foot:

The knee likes to move in a relatively straight line, if the hip or ankle struggle to move freely or with control, it can put added stress through the knee, forcing the knee to bend or rotate

injury:

Most knee injuries happen when the knee is forced to bend sideways or rotate, the most common area for injury is the inner knee, which also takes much more force over time.

Too much mobility:

For people who are clinically hypermobile, or even just more bendy than average, your knee joints can hyperextend (over-straighten) when standing or exercising putting stress through the joint. It can also be more susceptible to bending or rotating too far, vulnerable to overloading over time or injury

Muscle imbalance:

Pain around the kneecap is frequently linked to improper tracking, where the kneecap experiences excessive outward pull. Chronic tension in the outer thigh and weakness in the quadriceps can contribute to this, as well as hip and foot mechanics.

Can Osteopathy help with Knee Pain?

We will absolutely help you figure out whats causing your pain, and what to do about it.

You may have received a diagnosis already, but a diagnosis on it's own just identifies the end result, all too often, the factors that caused the issue in the first place are not identified or explained, advice on how to modify tasks or tackle the problem is not given.

We help people who have received a diagnosis, but no resolution (examples listed below), or have never previously sought help.

  • Patella-Femoral Pain (PFP)

  • ACL, MCL , Meniscus injury

  • Patella tendonopathy

  • Knee Osteoarthritis

  • Knee Bursitis

She explained clearly what was happening and showed me very helpful exercises, which gave me a real sense of control over my recovery. I am truly happy to have Holly as my osteopath and would definitely recommend her to my clients and friends!
